Learning Support and the Pastoral System
Learning Support
The Learning Support Department offers help to students experiencing difficulties with their work. In all subjects we make every effort to ensure that these students follow the full curriculum in mainstream lessons, whilst receiving extra specialist and special needs help. A team of Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) assist students in and out of lessons. Students with special needs therefore have the benefit of extra individual attention without falling behind in the curriculum. In addition, there are additional specialist teacher led programmes in place to support students who have difficulties with literacy and with mathematics.
The Pastoral System
Students at Furze Platt are provided with first class support and guidance. We want our students to feel happy, safe and secure so that they can enjoy their learning.
Pastoral Structure
The following members of the support staff have a specific pastoral remit:-
- Pastoral Managers - Day to day pastoral matters, routine contact with parents, liaison with external agencies and some mentoring.
- Attendance Officers - First day absence arrangements, contact with parents regarding absences, register maintenance, liaison with Education Welfare Officer etc.
- Parent Support Advisor - Works in close liaison with the pastoral team and Heads of Progress.
